A rare 2013 Swatch Art Special, created by Spanish multimedia artist José Carlos Casado and produced as a limited edition of just 8,000 pieces worldwide. Created during Swatch’s involvement with the 55th Venice Biennale, OFF is one of those Swatch designs where the watch itself becomes the artwork. THE MEANING BEHIND “OFF” The most fascinating part of this watch is the concept hidden within its dial. The dramatic black section represents exactly five seconds of every minute. As the black hands enter this area, they effectively disappear into the artwork and time becomes momentarily unreadable. Casado’s idea was beautifully simple: Take time OFF. Five seconds every minute. Five minutes every hour. Around two hours every day. A reminder to briefly stop, disconnect from routine and do something completely different. The design goes even further. OFF was originally accompanied by an augmented-reality experience, allowing the artwork to be transformed into three-dimensional imagery through a dedicated application – an exceptionally forward-thinking concept for a watch released in 2013.
