Sally Winter Original 1990’s Rare Etching, “Windows Monets Garden” 135/150. Sally Winter’s Limited Etching of her sketches done in Monet’s Garden in France in the 90’s. Etched on Zinc plate with aquatint print. Sally’s recent Quote about this original sketch/print she said on FB. Using a chilly, damp Monday to continue my plan chest cull. Sketchbook studies for plates occasionally bring back vivid memories of a place and a time in life. This one of a window in Monet’s Garden was done for a series of plates made for Brittany Ferries. What it brought back was the sheer joy of a job that saw me driving my through tree lined France to visit the garden of an Artist I had loved ever since I could wield a paintbrush. I can still smell the scent of a garden newly rained on. The artist has signed, inscribed and numbered (26/150) to the lower edge and the artwork has been presented in a contemporary wooden frame with layered card mount. Size : length 52cm x 47cm. Etching 28cm x 23cm. In very good condition. Sally Winter is best known for her vibrant and evocative etchings and collagraphs. A former member of the National Society of Printmakers and the Society of Botanical Artists, her work has been enthusiastically collected worldwide for over thirty years.

Original lithograph of a snow covered landscape with trees. “Winter, Greenport, New York”. Biography from wikipedia: Stow Wengenroth was an American artist and lithographer, born in 1906 in Brooklyn, New York. Wengenroth was once called “America’s greatest living artist working in black and white” by the American realist painter Andrew Wyeth, and he is generally considered to be one of the finest American lithographers of the twentieth century. He studied at the Art Students League of New York under George Bridgman and John Fabian Carlson from 1923 to 1927, then at the Grand Central School of Art under Wayman Adams. Wengenroth was elected a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters (renamed the American Academy of Arts and Letters) in 1942 and was also a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and the Prairie Printmakers. He was elected an Associate of the prestigious National Academy of Design in 1938, and a full Academician in 1941. Wengenroth was also the author of several influential books on lithography. Wengenroth’s lithographs are found in most major American collections, including the Library of Congress, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Metropolitan Museum of Art. During his career, Wengenroth became well known for his detailed depictions of the seascapes and landscapes of New England and, in particular, Maine. As an artist, he eschewed colour in his lithographs but rather focused on shadow, light, and form to transmit detail and dimension. While his urban scenes of Manhattan and the New York City environs are especially coveted by the current market, Wengenroth was most adept at creating sincere yet vivid simulacra of the New England littoral and interior. Pencil signed Stow Wengenroth. Measures 9 1/2″ x 15 7/8″ image. Sheet size 13 1/2″ x 19 1/2″. Matted size 16″ x 20″. Good condition with mat burn. This item is in the category “Art\Art Prints”.
