Original Limited Edition Lions Club Print by Jean Cocteau 1958. This product data sheet is originally written in English. Jacques Cocteau, the renowned French writer, artist, and filmmaker, created this notable poster for the French Lions Club in 1958. This poster was part of a campaign to promote the organization’s charitable activities, particularly focusing on social causes and community service. Jean Cocteau (1889 -1963) was a French poet, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker. Cocteau was a member of the social elite in Paris and was close with cultural icons such as Pablo Picasso, Marlene Dietrich, Coco Chanel, Igor Stravinsky, Edith Piaf, and Jean Genet. He sought to explore all arenas of the art world instead of focusing on one branch, which was considered controversial at the time. As an artist, Cocteau belonged to the Return to Order School (coined after one of his literary works), which rejected cubism and the avant-garde. Stylistically, his art combines elements of Romanticism and Surrealism in unique ways. The Lions Club was founded in 1917 in Chicago by Melvin Jones, with the aim of fostering community service and leadership among business professionals. The organization quickly expanded internationally, reaching France in 1949, where it established its first club in Paris. Since then, Lions Clubs in France have played a significant role in various charitable initiatives, focusing on health, education, and social welfare. Today, the Lions Club continues to be a prominent force for community service, promoting volunteerism and humanitarian efforts worldwide. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction.
