Vintage sterling silver 4 piece coffee/tea set, including tray, from Asprey & Co Ltd of London, circa 1980s. The 4 pieces of this unique English set include a tall coffee (or tea) pot, creamer, sugar bowl and tray. All 4 pieces are a matching modern octagonal shape. The creamer and sugar bowl are footed and the bases are also octagonal. The coffee/tea pot has a wooden handle, the creamer has a matching swirl handle but in sterling silver. The tray is an octagon shape with 4 longer sides and 4 shorter sides on the corners, giving it more of an overall square shape. The coffee/tea pot measures 10 1/2″ high, 4 1/4″ wide at base, 2 3/4 wide at top opening. The creamer measures 4 1/2″ high, 2″ wide at base, 2 wide at top opening. H, 2 3/8″ wide at base, 4 1/8″ wide at top. The tray measures 12 1/16″ long, 12 1/16″ wide, 13 1/2″ long on the diagonal, and 1″ high. The coffee/tea pot weighs 565dwt/878g/28.25toz. The creamer weighs 150dwt/233g/7.5toz. The sugar bowl weighs140dwt/217g/7toz. The tray weighs 835dwt/1300g/41.8toz. All pieces together weigh 1690dwt/2628g/84.5toz. All pieces are fully hallmarked. The pot, creamer and sugar bowl are marked Asprey STERLING ENGLAND APLC (Asprey hallmark of the time), lion (indicates sterling silver), leopard (London city hallmark), N (date mark for 1985). The tray is marked Asprey ENGLAND APLC (Asprey hallmark of the time), lion (indicates sterling silver), leopard (London city hallmark), L (date mark for 1987). Very nice condition with some tarnish and surface scratching on all pieces, scratches are especially evident on the tray and inside the sugar bowl (see photos). The wooden handle is tightly attached (not loose) and the lid of the pot works well.
